Students in the Cloudforest Classroom will choose one of three academic courses to pursue during their time at Siempre Verde.

Language and Culture Immersion

This course offers elective credit that does not count towards the language graduation requirement (0.5 hrs); Pre-requisite: Spanish I

This course focuses on the culture of the Intag region, while offering students a chance to improve their communication skills in Spanish.  In addition to their coursework, students will do home stays while volunteering for service projects in local communities. At least one year of previous Spanish language experience is required to make the most of this cultural immersion experience.

Tropical Ecology & Conservation

This course offers credit that counts towards the science graduation requirement. (0.5 hrs); Pre-requisite: Biology

This advanced science course focuses on the ecology of the cloudforest of Siempre Verde in comparison to other tropical and temperate forests of the world.  In addition to coursework, students will work alongside researchers in the field to complete long-term data collection projects on forest structure and species diversity, as well as individual research projects on a topic of their choosing.

Art & the Environment

This course offers credit that counts towards the Fine Arts graduation requirement. (0.5 hrs); Pre-requisite: Foundations of Art

This course emphasizes the interpretation of the natural beauty of Siempre Verde and surrounding areas of Ecuador through visual arts.  Students will learn about photographic techniques and the skills to better understand using a DSLR camera in an environment designed for photojournalism. We will also have the opportunity to study cyanotype printmaking, painting with native plant-based dyes, drawing from life, and mixed media masterpieces with organic and/or found materials from the region. Student portfolios will include themes that mirror Ecuador’s natural and cultural diversity.

These classes will be taught June 15-30. They are open to rising 10th -12th graders. The tuition is $3,500.00during early registration (until March 1).  After March 1, the cost will increase to $4000. A $1000 deposit will be charged as  at the time of online registration, which is non-refundable unless specifically approved by the program director. The remaining balance will be charged on May 1. (Note that the system implies that you will be charged the entire cost up front; however, this is not actually the case.) For additional information on these classes please visit the following web site: www.siempreverde.org.

Please note that students who register for the course will sign additional consent and waiver forms, as is the case for all Lovett international trips. Additional vaccinations may also be required prior to departure.
