Summer Theater Conservatory: Session One (Grades 6-9)

three-week camp: Footloose
Add to My CalendarJun 22-Jul 11, 2020
Last Date to register: Monday, June 1st, 2020

Summer Theater Conservatory engages your child in every aspect of a musical theater production: acting, singing, and dancing, as well as costume, prop, and set design. Students discover and refine theater skills in classes and workshops and then apply these abilities directly to the production. Coached by theater professionals, students gain confidence, get creative in all avenues of theater-making, and make memories that will last for years to come!

This three-week conservatory session will feature two simultaneous productions: For students going into 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades, the production will be Footloose: When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the Indepence Day holiday, there will be no camp on July 3rd. Campers who need to take extra days off for traveling must get clearance prior to casting on the first day of camp. Unexcused absences will affect performance roles.

PERFORMANCE INFO: There are two performances of the production: the evening of Friday, July 10th and the afternoon of Saturday, July 11th immediately followed by a strike/pizza party. Campers must be able to attend both performances.

EARLY CARE: Early drop-off, from 8:00am-8:45am, is available for purchase by the week as a registration add-on.
