Welcome to Junior Learn to Row!

Junior Learn to Row classes are a great opportunity to acquire new skills, try out a fascinating sport, improve conditioning...and have a huge amount of fun in the process. RCRC’s Junior Learn to Row program is designed for teens in grades 8 through 12 with no rowing experience, introducing the fundamentals of of sweep rowing in team boats.

The program is co-ed and is coached in a well-organized and non-competitive atmosphere.

Junior Learn to Row: Session #2

  • 6/20/22 - 6/24/22

  • MTWThF 7:45-9:45am

  • Because of the dramatic learning curve, participants should register for the session in which they will be able to attend all of the practices. Attendance at the first two practices is mandatory.

What’s after this class?

  • Join the summer Jr Learn to Row Team: the Jr LTR Team expands on the fundamentals introduced in LTR classes and allows new rowers the opportunity to spend more of the summer rowing. Rowers who completed a learn to row class in 2021 or 2022 can sign up. Two Jr LTR Team classes are scheduled in 2022, practicing 3 days/week for two weeks. Check the RCRC registration page for details and dates!

  • Information regarding RCRC’s competitive Junior Team will be shared in August and Learn to Row participants will be invited to try the Junior Novice Team, which starts in early September. (No rowing experience is necessary to join the Junior Novice Team.)

Team Boats and Safety Policies

Beginning in Fall 2021 all athletes must be able and willing to row in team boats, and follow the RCRC safety policies at the time of their class. Check current class and mask protocols in the Junior Learn to Row section of the Junior Team website.

Swim Test

All participants must complete a swim test on the first day, to include:

  • Swimming approx. 50 yards

  • Treading water for 5 min.

  • Putting on a PFD while in the water

Athletes who cannot complete the swim test but demonstrate basic swim skills are welcome in the class and are required to wear a PFD (provided by RCRC) when in a boat.

There is a class minimum of 5 participants for this session to be held.
