MS Portfolio Development Class: Drawing Foundations

Foundation drawing skills are the core of any of the 2D or 3D art disciplines.

We still have space in next Monday's online portfolio development and drawing workshop intended to build up drawing skills. This is a unique summer for students to get a jump start on the portfolio process in a supportive, no-pressure environment. This class is open for students in Grade 5-8.

Young artists will be given a head start in portfolio work while building the confidence and skills needed to succeed in an intensive high school. In addition, this preparatory course offers insight into the theoretical aspects of art, potential career paths, and the significance of group critiques.

We will be focusing on line drawing, volume, shading, composition, perspective, and proportion with a variety of medium -- graphite, charcoal, and ink, landscape, portraits, still life, and figure drawing will all be explored. Students will learn how to stage a compelling composition to draw a still life. These workshops are both for building up skills for portfolio development, pieces for your high school portfolio or just to have fun while drawing!

Students will receive an email with workshop details from instructor Jeanette Au this weekend!

Jeanette Au was raised in New York and trained in visual arts at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the Performing Arts. She holds a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art University. She has taught BFA Fashion courses at the Academy of Art University and California College of Art and has taught visual arts and textile arts in both Bay Area public and private schools including this summer's popular Citizen Girl camp.  Jeanette Au’s work blurs and transgresses the boundaries between fashion and art, exploring cross-cultural dialogues and liminal space. As an educator and mentor, she shares inspiration, process, and an exploration of material and techniques to discover and to delight in the unexpected with the next generation of creators and critical thinkers.
